Helping the Foundation be visible with style

The role

Fundacja Bochińskich is a non-profit cultural organisation based in Gdynia, promoting Polish industrial design through exhibitions, digital platforms, and educational programmes. Over a year and a half as an in-house designer, I was responsible for applying and extending their visual identity (originally designed by Piotr Zdanowicz) across all foundation touchpoints. I had a pleasure to bring the ideas to the physical studio space, create assets used day to day, and contribute to the wider team operations.

New space for work and visitors

New studio in PPNT Gdynia in Poland

Fundacja Bochińskich had just secured a studio space at PPNT Gdynia. As Beata and Jarek were preparing to move in, they asked me to design the identity applications for the new interior. The front and back windows received frosted vinyl – chosen to comply with PPNT's visual guidelines for the building – carrying a decorative pattern over the doors that were always closed, the foundation's social media handles, and a slot for an exchangeable monthly schedule for visitors.

Open to visitors

The studio was designed to be open to visitors – hosting open days, smaller events, and workshops. With multiple distinct areas inside, visitors needed to be able to orientate themselves quickly without requiring constant guidance.

Simple waypoints

We've decided to mark individual areas with their name alongside a line taken from the foundation's logo. Low cost, easy to apply, and consistent with the identity system.

The Library

The reading room held a curated library available to visitors. Books were marked with small stickers printed on transparent foil – unobtrusive enough not to distract from the covers. A small printed card reminded visitors to leave the books in the library after reading.

The Everyday Assets

Besides the studio, the foundation needed everyday things — envelopes, tapes, greeting cards. I also prepared social media templates for Láska Nebeská, the marketing company running the foundation's channels, so they could post without me reviewing every visual.

The templates were minimal – Láska nebeská could use them independently. For special occasions, for example christmas I made bespoke visuals.

"Got Talent" Program

The Library

Nina Kardaś was a first-year student at the University of Gdańsk, doing an internship at the foundation through the "Got Talent" programme. I ran a motion design mentorship with her. We started from scratch going through ideation, process using moodboards and storyboards. Nina provided an initial idea and through collaboration we created an animation shown on the facade of the foundation's studio at PPNT Gdynia every evening during Gdynia Design Days 2023.
