The Concept

Supporting the curator's vision

W Nowym Świetle was curated and presented by Anna Maria Kotkiewicz, who was also the exhibiting artist. The exhibition was part of Gdynia Design Days 2024 - one of the largest design festivals in Poland - and inaugurated the Halo Witryna programme by Fundacja Bochińskich.

My role split into two parts: designing the exterior of the exhibition box - choosing frosted vinyl as the material, designing the plaques, and deciding the placement of elements in relation to Ania's interior scenography - and designing the poster.

Using the beauty of the artworks

Working with someone who was both curator and artist meant there was no separate brief to interpret. I worked from the objects themselves: the Coquilles are tactile, delicate, and strongly responsive to light. The poster background is a macro photograph of one of the pieces, edited from an image Ania provided. The palette came directly from the porcelain surface.

The Box

Leaving space for the art

The exhibition took place in a glass-fronted retail box visible from the basement corridor of Hale Targowe.

Ania provided a 3D model of the interior in Blender, which I used to design the exterior application - this way both layers could be worked on together and the final result stayed cohesive. Frosted vinyl was chosen to not interrupt the intimate and atmospheric scenography Ania had built inside. It covered two windows: the "F.Bo Halo Witryna" logos on the left side window and half of the sun motif on the right side window.

Responding to the interior

In the interior, Ania had designed a continuous line connecting the shelves her objects rested on. I brought that motif outside: a black Line running along the description plaques, with the corner of the second plaque rounded to echo the same gesture. The graphic layer was a response to what was already happening inside the case.
